Album and Score of "48 Etudes for Multiple Percussion Solos" Released Post-Orientalism Press has released the album and score of "48 Etudes for Multiple Percussion Solos," accompanied by liner notes from Ehsan Saboohi, composer and theorist of Post-Orientalism. According to the composer's notes, the process of developing and writing this collection began in 2020 and was completed at the end of 2025. During this period, Saboohi focused on reconsidering the concept of time in music and re-examining it within the intellectual framework of Post-Orientalism. Referencing the expansion of expressive possibilities in contemporary music by figures such as Brian Ferneyhough and George Crumb, he writes that certain precise issues related to temporal expression and structural coherence still require a different approach. The theoretical foundations and working methods of this collection were previously explained in the audio-accompanied instructional book "Q Time Machine: Polychronic Time Reading." This book is essential for properly understanding the scores and working with the QPS system. Another companion volume titled "The Aesthetics of Post-Orientalism: The Philosophy of Composition" has also been published as supplementary reading. The rhythmic structure throughout the collection is determined using the QPS system. This system specifies the number of events per line per second, with each event being one of two basic actions: a hit or silence. The structure of the etudes is formed using mathematical and physical sequences, and rather than relying on improvisation, it provides the performer with a precise and measurable structure. At the conclusion of his notes, Saboohi writes that the purpose of composing these etudes was to offer a structured collection for expanding the percussion repertoire. He notes that performers can use various instrumental configurations and present their personal interpretations. These etudes are available to all performers for download, performance, and recording.
