About On Air – On Site
On Air – On Site is a project designed with the primary aim of fostering the growth of an experimental community radio based in The Hague. Sound artist and radio maker Margherita Brillada conceived this initiative recognising the sociological dimension of radio as a public space for artistic involvement and community connection. In 2023, she initiated the festival as a practice-based project aligned with her artistic research in community radio and web radio. Leonie Roessler works with field recordings and art radio. Her work has been increasingly focused on both collaborative composition processes and the theme of marginalisation. She joined Margherita in curating the first edition of the festival and the two are now preparing the 2024 edition which will be held from May 24 at 20.00 p.m. until May 26 at 20.00 p.m., online, on the FM, and on site at the Institute of Sonology and WEST Den Haag.
On Air - On Site is a sound investigation of a temporary radio event consisting of a broadcast schedule of 48 hours of non-stop streaming, including live performances, fixed media, and radio artworks specifically composed for the festival by an international community of sound artists. The project explores the boundaries of being simultaneously on air in a physical and virtual space, challenging different radio formats.
On Air - On Site invites the involved artists and the public to re-consider the physical spaces as a context rather than a location and to rethink together a different relationship between communities and experimental radio practice.
First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to our esteemed colleague and composer, Leonie Roessler, for her contributions to the R&R and production of this collection. Without her and Soheil Soheili's dedication, compiling this collection would not have been possible. The extensive interactions without constraints are a source of pride for all members of the post-Orientalism community.
Lastly, we extend our thanks to all the senior managers of On Air, On Site Radio, the Institute of Sonology, and WEST Den Haag for their efforts. We send our warm regards to them from various parts of the world.
We recommend listening to the outstanding works of the artists involved in this project. Attached are the pages related to this event. Your support in sharing the news is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ehsan Saboohi

Noise à Noise is an Iranian Music Label, which moved headquarters to Berlin in 2023. It represents Iranian noise artists, and artists who are working in close relationship with the Iranian noise scene.
Ehsan Saboohi is a post orientalism composer and music theorist. Post-Orientalism is a term coined by the composer and music theorist himself to describe a music language for analyzing the aesthetics of his and his colleagues’ compositions. Saboohi defines this language as follows:
“Post-Orientalism is a modern music language that uses microtonal sounds and intervals alongside altered sound chain and block structures to achieve a post-orientalism musical piece in different acoustic and electroacoustic compositions.”
Ehsan Saboohi, in his third composition period, is looking for a different language of common Contemporary Classical music trends by taking inspiration from the philosophical-social ideas of the famous philosopher Edward Said (1935-2003).
